Overview

A new lithium-ion battery recycling facility in metro Sydney approached Risk and Safety Solutions Melbourne (RSSM) for expert guidance on safety and compliance. The recycling of lithium-ion batteries involves handling Li-ion Battery thermal runaway risk, making regulatory compliance and safety critical aspects of the facility’s operations. 

RSSM was engaged to provide a range of services, including the development of Dangerous Goods (DG) design Reports, SEPP 33 Assessments, Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), and Fire Safety Study (FSS). – We identified mitigation measures to minimize risks and ensure compliance with the State Environmental Protection Policy (SEPP). 

Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA)

– We conducted a Preliminary Hazard Analysis to identify potential hazards, including fire, chemical exposure, and equipment failures. 
– The PHA provided recommendations for control measures to reduce risks and ensure the safety of the facility and its workers. 

Fire Safety Study (FSS)

– Our Fire Safety Study assessed the fire prevention, detection, and protection systems required to manage fire risks effectively. 
– We ensured the FSS met the necessary regulatory requirements and was tailored to the specific hazards of lithium-ion battery recycling.
